In this issue, we present the treatment recommendations for trigeminal neuralgia as the first topic in the series of recommendations from the MPNP on neuropathic pain conditions. We also continue our series of case presentations, looking at diabetic neuropathy. Our regular features, including a literature review, Q&A and useful Web sites.

For the second issue, we outline common neuropathic pain syndromes and discuss the use of pain scales for the evaluation of pain. We also review a case of postherpetic neuralgia along with featuring a literature review, Q&A and useful Web sites.

Issue 1 - April 2002

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Challenges in Neuropathic Pain, the newsletter brought to you by the Multidisciplinary Panel on Neuropathic Pain (MPNP). In this first issue, we briefly introduce the MPNP members as well as the mission and objectives of the panel. A feature article reviewing the connection between neuropathic pain and its underlying pathophysiology is presented along with a case of trigeminal neuralgia. We also feature a literature review and Q&A section aimed to keep Hong Kong clinicians updated on the latest developments in managing neuropathic pain conditions.
