MPNP Recommendations for the Management of CRPS

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CPRS) is an uncommon neuropathy that normally affects the limbs. It is characterized by pain and altered sensation; motor dysfunction and soft-tissue change; vasomotor and autonomic alterations; and psychosocial disturbance.

While CRPS can affect all age groups, it most commonly occurs between the ages of 40 and 60. It is also found 2 to 3.1 times more often in women. This recommendation provides guidelines for diagnosis and management of CRPS, and also includes an appendix on evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological management options.

This Multidisciplinary Panel on Neuropathic Pain (MPNP) recommendation, published in September 2009, is an update of an earlier version first published in August 2005.
