MPNP Recommendations for the Management of Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Diabetic neuropathy is a family of progressive degenerative disorders affecting the sensory, motor or autonomic peripheral nerves. Factors believed to be responsible for peripheral nerve damage are poor glycaemic control and chronic hyperglycaemia. At onset, the type and severity of symptoms vary widely among patients, making diagnosis and prognosis imprecise.
This recommendation from the Multidisciplinary Panel on Neuropathic Pain (MPNP) highlights the epidemiology of diabetic neuropathy and also provides guidelines for diagnosis and management of the condition with an appendix on evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological management options.
